Sasha Ayad is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works in private practice, and has treated adolescents for over 16 years. Around 2015, she became interested in the sharp rise in teenagers who declare a trans identity for the first time during adolescence. She discovered, through working with hundreds of families, that many teens were developing gender dysphoria only after contemplating ideas about gender identity and transition. She questions the practice of medical gender interventions for children and teenagers, and her clinical work focuses on developmentally appropriate, least-invasive-first talk therapy. Her knowledge of high-control groups, radicalization, and family relationship breakdown allows Sasha to help parents reconnect, encourage critical thinking, and build flexibility and resilience in their children.
Sasha supports parents who have gender-questioning teens and young adults - she has built a robust library of resources and offers 1-1 consultation, live private group coaching, and she writes a monthly newsletter on Substack.
She is the co-host of Gender: A Wider Lens Podcast and a founding board member of several organizations including Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine, The Gender Exploratory Therapy Association and Genspect.
